Ribeira Sacra exceeds 7 million kilos planned for this campaign


On October 8, the Ribeira Sacra Denomination of Origin had collected 7,020,058 kilos of grapes, of which most correspond to Mencía with 5,845,403 Kilos and the white Godello variety, with 406,656 kilos.

Con fecha 8 de octubre, la Denominación de Origen Ribeira Sacra había recogido 7.020.058 kilos de uva, de los que la mayoría corresponden a Mencía con 5.845.403 Kilos y la variedad blanca Godello, con 406.656 kilos. The Denomination is about to finish the biggest harvest in its history by overcoming the barrier of 7 million kilos that it touched in 2011, when 6,999,560 kilos entered the winery.

Of the 96 wineries that harvested this campaign under the protection of the D.O.Ribeira Sacra, 19 are doing vintage work, 4 have it paralyzed and 73 have already finished.
So far the official grape collection data are:

Red Varieties: Mencía: 5.845.403 k, Brancellao: 28.147 k, Merenzao: 62.767 k, Caiño: 30.920 k, Grao Negro: 2.057 k, Garnacha: 363.158 k, Mouratón: 10.752 k, Sousón: 90.153 k y Tempranillo: 58.819 k

White Varieties: Albariño: 69.852 k, Blanco legítimo 3.420 k, Dona Branca: 5.524 k, Godello: 406.656 k, Loureira: 2.121 k, Torrontés: 3.675 k, Treixadura: 36.634 k

The harvest officially began on September 19th, although several wineries had begun collection at the end of August. The works have been favored by excellent weather conditions that contributed to the optimum state of the grape.
