Sales data in the wine sector are given in accordance with the last wine growing season that runs from August 1st, 2019 to July 31st, 2020 and are measured in hectoliters. An important part of that period already passed with the coronavirus pandemic and the corresponding closure of the hotel and restaurant sector, even so the data from D.O. Ribeira Sacra in terms of sales in the state territory improved compared to the previous campaign, standing at 38,759 hectoliters, compared to 36,162 last year; which suggests that during the confinement sales in supermarkets and online increased. In Spain, the communities that buy the most wine with D.O. Ribeira Sacra are Valencia with 1,997.40 hectoliters, Madrid with 698.94 hectoliters, Catalonia 313.97 with hectoliters and Castilla y León 118.80 hectoliters.
In Galicia D.O. Ribeira Sacra sales also increased compared to last season, with 34,026.31 hectoliters this year and 32,428.70 last year. Ourense is the province where more wine with D.O. London Wine Fair 2019
In exports there has been a slight decrease compared to last year, going from 1,629.84 hectoliters to 1,506.93 in this last period. Even so, exports to countries such as Belgium, Canada, China, Ireland, Italy or Switzerland increased; highlighting the increase in Russia, the Netherlands and Germany. This increase is linked to the visits that importers and prescribers have made to the wineries and vineyards of D.O. Ribeira Sacra and also to the presence in international fairs such as Prowein, London Wine Fair, Vinexpo Bordeaux, ... and other events such as Decanter. While attending national fairs such as Gourmets or Fenavin, contributed to consolidate sales in the rest of Spain and to have a greater presence in the rest of the national territory.
The effects of the pandemic and its traffic limitations did have an impact on trade with the United States, where 472.17 hectoliters were sold last season and 339.56 hectoliters this year. The best year for trade relations with US was 2015 with 877.32 hectoliters. That year the export sales of D.O. Ribeira Sacra increased considerably, going from 359.40 in 2014 to 1,575.29 hectoliters in 2015. Adding exports and imports, D.O.
