12 references of the D.O. Ribeira Sacra, belonging to 12 wineries in the area, were tasted this week at Vinexpo, in Paris, in the first joint promotion action carried out by the Association of Galician Wine Regulatory Councils and the II.GG Aguardientes and Traditional Spirits of Galicia (ACRUAGA). It was the first time that the native Galician wines and spirits, protected under various quality seals, were jointly promoted abroad.
The Paris event was the first major international wine meeting of the year. The wine and spirits sector received Wine Paris & Vinexpo Paris with great expectation, which has 2,800 exhibitors from 32 countries for three days. From the C.R.D.O.R.S. value the return to international fairs after this time of pandemic positively. In Paris, the visitor was surprised by how different the wines of the D.O. Ribeira Sacra in relation to other Spanish wines that regularly attend Vinexpo, it was the first time that D.O. Ribeira Sacra went to Paris, since before the pandemic the fair was held in Bordeaux. “It was that staging of going back to international fairs again. There was not the amount of international wines that there normally are at this event, but France made a great effort and all of France and other countries in the world were there waiting, to see how it worked and how everything was going and it seems that the fairs that are about to coming as Prowein will once again be those great events around wine,” says the President of the CRDORS, José Manuel Rodríguez.
ACRUAGA is made up of the Regulatory Councils for Wine and Augardientes and Traditional Spirits of Galicia to cover a collaboration agreement signed with the IGAPE whose purpose is the international promotion of wines and distillates covered by the differentiated quality seals of Galicia. ACRUAGA will promote training and dissemination actions for Galician wines with D.O. In addition to Vinexpo, the association is considering participating in the London Wine Fair in June, the most important wine fair in the United Kingdom.
In addition to this joint international promotion, D.O. Ribeira Sacra hopes to attend other fairs throughout the year, the following Prowein, as José Manuel Rodríguez points out, “The pandemic situation makes it difficult to foresee the promotional actions in which the D.O. Ribeira Sacra and its wines will be, but if the conditions allow it, wines of the D.O. Ribeira Sacra will be at Xantar, Gourmets, Prowein or Fenavin and the different town halls will try to celebrate their wine fairs. Alternatives will continue to be sought to convey to the consumer the taste of a landscape and the importance of betting on wines with D.O. as socioeconomic engines of the territories.”
