The Hotel San Francisco in Santiago de Compostela was the setting for the XXXVI Cata dos Viños de Galicia, a prominent event in Galicia's wine calendar that brought together representatives from the sector and local authorities. During the awards ceremony, the coveted Acio de Ouro awards were given to the best wines from each denomination.
In the category of white wines from Ribeira Sacra, the Acio de Ouro Blanco was awarded to Viña Vella from the winery Virxen dos Remedios. This wine is crafted with a careful blend of 60% Godello, 20% Albariño, and 20% Treixadura. Meanwhile, the Acio de Ouro Tinto went to Mencía from Casa Moreiras, a wine composed of 92% Mencía, 4% Tempranillo, 2% Garnacha, and 2% Sousón.
The event was attended by President of the Xunta, Alfonso Rueda, and Conselleira do Medio Rural, María José Gómez, who highlighted the importance of the wine sector for the Galician economy. Rueda emphasized that this industry not only drives the rural economy and creates quality jobs but also serves as an ambassador for the Galicia Calidade label, attracting tourists to Galicia year-round.
The XXXVI Cata dos Viños reaffirms the prestige of the D.O. Ribeira Sacra and celebrates the talent and dedication of Galician wineries, contributing to the recognition of Galician wines on both national and international levels.
