Wines from D.O. Ribeira Sacra stand out at the Mondial des Vins Extrêmes 2024

08/10/2024

The Denomination of Origin Ribeira Sacra achieved excellent results in the recent edition of the Mondial des Vins Extrêmes 2024, a globally renowned wine competition for wines produced in mountain regions or through heroic viticulture. This year, the event took place in the Aosta Valley, Italy, an alpine region known for its steeply sloped vineyards.

The Mondial des Vins Extrêmes, held on September 29th and 30th, featured the participation of 356 wineries from 25 countries, with a total of 1,015 wines entered. The jury, made up of 50 international expert tasters, awarded 64 Grand Gold Medals and 241 Gold Medals, along with other special prizes.

This competition aims to promote and highlight viticulture in areas facing extreme challenges; wines produced in mountain regions or from heroic vineyards (terraces or lands with over 30% slope or an altitude of more than 500 meters above sea level, or from small islands). In addition to recognizing the uniqueness of these wines, the competition emphasizes the efforts of winemakers and wineries in preserving the environment and the land. This competition is part of the Federation of the Great International Wine Competitions (VINOFED).
