CLARIFICATION REGARDING THE POSSIBILITY OF ESTABLISHING A WINERY CERTIFIED BY THE D.O. RIBEIRA SACRA IN THE INDUSTRIAL PARK OF MONFORTE DE LEMOS
In light of the interest reflected in the media regarding the possibility of establishing a winery certified by the D.O. Ribeira Sacra in the industrial park of Monforte de Lemos, we would like to clarify the following:As of today, the urban planning information available to the Regulatory Council is that published in the Diario Oficial de Galicia No. 139, dated July 18, 2024, under Decree 168/2024 of July 8, issued by the Consellería de Presidencia, Xusticia e Deportes. This decree resolves the demarcation dispute between the municipalities of Sober and Monforte de Lemos.The decree establishes the resolution of the dispute between the municipalities of Sober and Monforte de Lemos concerning the delimitation of their municipal boundaries. The decree specifies that the jurisdictional boundary line in the disputed area shall be as proposed by the National Geographic Institute, included as Annex I of the decree and represented on the orthophotomap E:1:5,000 from the National Geographic Institute, included as Annex II of the decree. According to the map from the National Geographic Institute (Annex II), the industrial park of Monforte de Lemos is entirely within the municipality of Monforte de Lemos.Taking into account the provisions outlined in the Regulatory Council's Conditions Document for the D.O. Ribeira Sacra, specifically in Section 8.- Applicable Provisions, subsection b.2) Requirements for production and bottling, it is stated that "the production area coincides with the growing area, and additionally, due to customs and orographic difficulties, production, storage, and bottling are authorized in a series of parishes listed herein."The parish of Piñeira, in the municipality of Monforte de Lemos, is not included in the list of producing parishes within the municipality of Monforte de Lemos.The municipality of Monforte de Lemos does not have any parishes included in the list of parishes that, while not being producers, are authorized as areas for production, storage, and bottling.For all the reasons stated above, the industrial park of Monforte de Lemos is not suitable for hosting a facility for the production of wine certified by the D.O. Ribeira Sacra.
