The exchange visit from Belgium and Luxembourg
The D.O. Ribeira Sacra offers exclusiveness in its wines
Importers, distributors and wine journalists from Belgium and Luxembourg participated in an exchange visit, that on Tuesday afternoon took them to the C.R.D.O.R.S headquarters.
A wine technician from the Denominación gave a presentation on the D.O. and afterwards the visitors had the opportunity to taste the wines from five bodegas and share experiences with representatives from the bodegas.
Pérez Vidal, a Belgian distributor said that the wines were very good and very well made. He had already had the opportunity to get to know the wines in Germany and was surprised by the Mencías. He also said that in Belgium and Luxembourg the wine market was dominated by French wines but little by little new wines were being introduced to the market.
Íñigo Gracia, a distributor also from Belgium, said he was impressed by the welcome they had been given in the Ribeira Sacra and praised the facilities at the Ribeira Sacra Wine Centre. Íñigo Gracia made these statements after ' tasting an impressive Mencía'. According to the Belgian distributor, the history, the development of the D.O. and the way in which the grapes are cultivated,... the production of Ribeira Sacra wine is expensive, but this production is what gives the wine an exclusiveness that other denominates don´t have. 'I need to sell something unique, exclusive and that is what I came here to look for and there are wines here in the Ribeira Sacra that I want to work with. At the moment the D.O. isn´t very well known in Belgium, it needs to have time spent promoting its name, but offering a good product will open up the market.
This exchange visit was organised by the Ourense Chamber of Commerce, it visited the wine D.O.s of Galicia, coinciding with the II Vinis Terrae, the exhibition of quality wines and Liquors from Galicia, that for another year running was attended by the Denominación de Origen Ribeira Sacra, which got a great reception from the visiting public. The next event is Salimat in Silleda from the 11th to the 14th of June.
