September 19, official start of harvest in the D.O. Ribeira Sacra
Regulatory Council of the D.O. Ribeira Sacra sets the recommended date for the generalized start of the grape harvest in the Designation of Origin on September 19, extending the collection of the grapes until mid-October.
On Tuesday, August 27, ripening controls began in the vineyards, which allowed to determine the state of the grapes and define the official date for the start of the harvest in this campaign.
On August 28, the optimum state of ripeness of the grapes in some plots of the Amandi area caused Adega Damm S.L. start with the work of collecting grapes, mainly from the Godello variety.
The appropriate weather conditions, the optimum sanitary state of the grapes and the proper graduation suggest an excellent harvest of more than 7 million kilos of grapes.
In this campaign, 99 wineries will make wine under the Denomination of Origin under which, as of September 8, 11 were in harvest, 6 are paralyzed and 1 has already been completed. 84,570 kilos are collected, mostly Godello with 36,267 kilos and Mencía with 29,784 kilos.
