D.O. Ribeira Sacra arrives at the recommended date to start the harvest with 723,204 kilos of grapes collected

19/09/2019

Thursday, September 19th, is the date that the D.O. Ribeira Sacra marked as a recommended date for the generalized start of the harvest. On September 18th and after several wineries decided to start harvesting, since August 28, 723,204 kilos of grapes have been collected. The majority corresponds to Mencía with 451,210 kilos and Godello with 156,086 kilos. The rest of varieties are collected:

Red varieties:

  • Brancellao 6.013  kilos
  • Merenzao 16.005 kilos
  • Caíno 14.420 kilos
  • Grao Negro 1.400 kilos
  • Garnacha 10.068 kilos
  • Mouratón 343 kilos
  • Sosusón 5.144 kilos
  • Tempranillo 15.959 kilos
White varieties:
  • Albariño 34.400 kilos
  • Blanco Legítimo 60 kilos
  • Dona Branca 2.292 kilos
  • Loureira 463 kilos
  • Torrontés 1.852 kilos
  • Treixadura  7.489 kilos

Of the 98 wineries that are expected to sell under the protection of the D.O. Ribeira Sacra in this campaign, 33 are doing vintage work, 19 have it paralyzed and 4 have already finished. Therefore there are 42 wineries that have not yet started the collection work.

The forecasts are that, between today and tomorrow, an important volume of winecellars will begin with the harvest works. It is expected that after this weekend the million kilos of grapes will be exceeded. The rains and specific episodes of storm that we have had in this last week have not affected the vineyards and the normality of the Denomination continues. The grape that is entering the winery is still in an optimal sanitary state and the weather conditions are being very favorable, so the forecast is still exceeding 7 million Kilos of grapes in this campaign.

From today, the website of the C.R.D.O.R.S. will offer daily collection data updated by varieties.
