Harvest begins in D.O. Ribeira Sacra

25/08/2020

Ronsel do Sil winery in the Ribeiras do Sil region announces that, except for unforeseen events, it will begin this Wednesday, August 26th, the work of collecting grapes of specific varieties in certain plots. Meanwhile, technicians from the Regulatory Council of Ribeira Sacra Denomination of Origin, carry out the ripening controls that will help to set an official date for the general start of the harvest in this Denomination.

The ripening controls are always carried out in the same plots, representatives of the five sub-zones and with grapes of different varieties. With the results, the technical department of the Regulatory Council will prepare a report that will be presented so that the official recommended date for the start of the harvest is set; which last year was on September 19th after the harvest in the D.O. was started on August 28th by another Amandi winery, Adega Damm S.L. 2019 harvest would end up becoming the most abundant in history with 7,262,831 kilos collected.

In this vintage in which viticulturists and winemakers face the challenge of collecting grapes while guaranteeing safety against Covid19, the health of the grapes promises to be optimal, although it is expected that it will not be as abundant a vintage as the previous one. This year, it may not reach 6 million kilos of grapes due to some specific diseases in the vineyards.
