Visit to make visible the D.O. Ribeira Sacra in Europe
A group of five communicators from different European countries, coordinated by the Spanish Union of Tasters through the European project, "A Shared Passion", of the Interprofessional Wine Organization of Spain (OIVE) visited this October 4th the D.O. Ribeira Sacra. These types of meetings try to enhance the knowledge and visibility of Spain as a wine country.
The communicators Simon Stafler (Austria), Antonhy de Beir (Netherlands), Anniina Schriner (Finland), Signe Meirane (Latvia) and Rowena Dumlao (Italy) attended a presentation of the Denomination of Origin Ribeira Sacra at the Ribeira Sacra Wine Center and a later Wine Tunnel. They tasted 14 wines from 14 wineries, young wines, barrel-aged wines, Godellos, Mencías and other varieties such as Merenzao.
They highlighted the desire they had to visit Ribeira Sacra, after having heard about heroic viticulture and having tried some Mencía. On this occasion they had the opportunity to taste very different wines and they assured that they were impressed by the freshness and lightness; the same as varieties like Godello, to which they said they were not accustomed.
After the morning's work, in the afternoon they would visit the vineyards and wineries of the D.O. Ribeira Sacra and were eager to continue the visit. The five tasters were accompanied by the person responsible for international promotion and the marketing director of the OIVE.
