These figures are approaching the production figure of 2005 that was 5,308,843 and which was the best figure until now at the D.O. Ribeira Sacra since the initiation of the D.O. in 1996. In that year 55 bodegas were working under the protection of the Denominación, compared with the 95 that were working this year. It has gone from 900 hectares to more than 1,200 hectares, this year also saw the incorporation of new production areas in different subregions. The number of wine producers has increased from 1,100 to more than 2,800 and production has jumped from 2,187,000 kilos to more than 5,200,000.
In this progress the development in the quality of the wines of the Ribeira Sacra should be highlighted, with the wines being endorsed year after year through numerous recognitions both national and international, its position in the international markets and its support from the consumers.
The Denominación will continue these trends with the expectations from this harvest being very good. The grapes that entered the bodega were in very good condition and of a high grade.
