“Mondial des Vins Extremes” is coming and D.O. Ribeira Sacra attends with 64 samples

“Mondial des Vins Extremes”, the most important international event in the field of mountain viticulture or heroic viticulture, organized by CERVIM in the Italian Aosta Valley, reaches its annual appointment. Traditionally this contest was held in July, this time the coronavirus pandemic has caused the Mondial des Vins Extremes to postpone its celebration for a few weeks and it will take place between August 27th and 29th.

The criteria that the Denominations must meet for their wines to participate in the contest must be some of the following: altitude greater than 500 meters, slope of the land greater than 30% (in points of  D.O. Ribeira Sacra it reaches 80% ) or viticultural systems of terrace cultivation.

D.O. Ribeira Sacra is a world benchmark for what is called heroic viticulture, a name that is reached due to orographic conditions that do not allow mechanization, small vineyards usually organized in terraces; adverse climatic conditions or / and because the vineyard is located in geographical areas with highly beautiful landscapes and with a tourist character.

CERVIM, promoter of the event, seeks with it to value the enological production of those lands that are characterized by structural difficulties, but also by unique wines that have an extraordinary personality. Its objective is to emphasize the unique characteristics of these wines and make consumers aware of the cultural aspects of mountain viticulture and the valuable work that winemakers do to enhance the value of the territory.

D.O. Ribeira Sacra presents this year 64 samples, 53 of red wines and 11 of white wines, belonging to 36 wineries. The good results that D.O. Ribeira Sacra always obtained in Aosta are an international springboard for its wines and have made it one of the most important world references within mountain viticulture or heroic viticulture.
