Whilst the GuÃa Peñin has already been published for this year, José Peñin arrived to taste the wines of the Ribeira Sacra in May. 63 samples were presented to the wine critic, 11 white wines, one of them barrel-aged and 52 red wines, 10 of them barrel-aged. In total these wines represented 38 bodegas. The valuations done by Peñin of the Ribeira Sacra wines are very high, with some wines gaining more than 90 points. This being the case for El Pecado, an aged wine, from the bodega Guimaro closely followed by Algueira Barrica 2006 and the young wines Soutullo and San Mamede.
With these valuations José Peñin shares the same opinion as the American wine critic Robert Parker who also gave excellent results to El Pecado and Algueira barrica. These successes confirm the excellent work that is being done with aged wines in the D.O.
